ODP to VFX-Grade EXR

Extract your ODP slide visuals as OpenEXR images with HDR precision — ready for compositing, color grading, or integration into film and broadcast pipelines.

Floating-Point Color

EXR preserves an enormous dynamic range. Subtle gradients and fine tonal details from your ODP slides are maintained with accuracy that 8-bit formats cannot match.

Browser-Based Workflow

Convert ODP to EXR directly in your web browser with no desktop software installation. Convertio handles the format transformation entirely online.

About formats

ODP (OpenDocument Presentation) is the presentation file format defined by the OpenDocument Format (ODF) standard, developed by the OASIS technical committee and first published as ODF 1.0 on May 1, 2005, later adopted as international standard ISO/IEC 26300. An ODP file is a ZIP archive containing XML documents that describe presentation content, styles, metadata, and settings using a vendor-neutral, royalty-free specification. Slides are defined in content.xml using drawing and presentation namespaces, with separate files for styles, manifest, and embedded media. The format supports text frames, images, charts, tables, shapes, gradients, transparency, slide transitions, animations, master pages, and speaker notes. ODP serves as the native format for LibreOffice Impress, Apache OpenOffice Impress, and Calligra Stage, and can be imported by Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, and other commercial tools. One advantage is vendor independence — ODP is governed by an open standard rather than a single company, ensuring long-term accessibility and freedom from proprietary lock-in. This makes ODP particularly valuable for government agencies, educational institutions, and organizations with digital preservation mandates. The fully documented XML structure is another strength, enabling programmatic generation and processing using any programming language with XML support. ODP is mandated or recommended as a document format by numerous national governments worldwide.

EXR is a high-dynamic-range raster image format developed by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) internally since 1999 and publicly released as open-source software in January 2003. OpenEXR was created to meet the demanding requirements of feature film visual effects compositing, where scenes routinely contain extreme brightness ranges — from deep shadows to specular highlights on water, metal, or light sources — that exceed the precision of 8-bit or 16-bit integer formats. EXR stores pixel data in 16-bit floating-point (half) or 32-bit floating-point per channel, providing over 30 stops of dynamic range with smooth precision across the entire luminance spectrum. The format supports an arbitrary number of channels (not just RGBA), tiled and scanline storage, multiple compression methods (lossless ZIP, lossy B44 and DWAA/DWAB for preview quality), multi-part files containing multiple views or layers, and deep pixel data where each pixel stores multiple depth-sorted samples for volumetric effects. One advantage is compositing fidelity: the floating-point precision means that color grading, exposure adjustments, lighting changes, and multi-layer compositing operations produce mathematically correct results without the banding, clipping, or quantization artifacts inherent in integer formats. EXR's adoption as the VFX industry standard is another core strength — it is the default interchange format for Foundry Nuke, Autodesk Flame, Blackmagic Fusion, Adobe After Effects, and every major 3D renderer, and its open-source C++ library is embedded in hundreds of production tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why convert ODP to EXR?

EXR captures slide content in high dynamic range with floating-point precision — giving VFX artists and compositors the latitude for color grading and exposure adjustments.

What software opens EXR files?

Nuke, Adobe After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, and Blender all work with EXR natively. Viewers like djv and mrViewer also display OpenEXR images for quick previews.

What makes EXR special compared to other formats?

EXR stores pixel data in 16-bit half-float or 32-bit float, preserving extreme brightness ranges. Standard 8-bit formats clip highlights and shadows that EXR retains.

Does EXR support transparency?

Yes — EXR fully supports alpha channels alongside its color data, making it ideal for layered compositing in visual effects and motion graphics pipelines.

Is this conversion free?

Convertio provides free ODP to EXR conversion for all users. Premium subscriptions unlock higher file sizes and priority processing for production workloads.
