ODP (OpenDocument Presentation) is the presentation file format defined by the OpenDocument Format (ODF) standard, developed by the OASIS technical committee and first published as ODF 1.0 on May 1, 2005, later adopted as international standard ISO/IEC 26300. An ODP file is a ZIP archive containing XML documents that describe presentation content, styles, metadata, and settings using a vendor-neutral, royalty-free specification. One advantage is vendor independence — ODP is governed by an open standard rather than a single company, ensuring long-term accessibility and freedom from proprietary lock-in. This makes ODP particularly valuable for government agencies, educational institutions, and organizations with digital preservation mandates. The fully documented XML structure is another strength, enabling programmatic generation and processing using any programming language with XML support. ODP is mandated or recommended as a document format by numerous national governments worldwide.
