POTX (PowerPoint Template XML) is the Open XML template format for Microsoft PowerPoint, introduced with Office 2007. A POTX file is a ZIP archive containing XML parts that define slide masters, slide layouts, theme colors, theme fonts, theme effects, placeholder configurations, and default content — everything needed to establish a consistent visual foundation for new presentations. When applied, a POTX template creates a new PPTX document inheriting the template's complete design system, including multiple slide layout variants (title, content, two-column, comparison, blank, and custom layouts) each with precisely positioned placeholders.
