Superior Compression

HEIC packs more visual quality into fewer bytes than legacy formats. DXF drawings become compact yet crisp images ready for distribution.

Apple Ecosystem Fit

HEIC is the native image format on iPhone, iPad, and Mac — your converted DXF drawings display instantly across all Apple devices.

Quick Turnaround

Upload a DXF file and receive the HEIC result in seconds. Cloud-based processing handles rendering without any wait on your end.

About formats

DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) is a CAD data file format developed by Autodesk, first released in December 1982 with AutoCAD 1.0 to enable interoperability between AutoCAD and other programs. The format exists in two variants: ASCII DXF, a human-readable text file organized into sections (HEADER, TABLES, BLOCKS, ENTITIES, OBJECTS), and binary DXF for faster parsing. Each geometric entity — lines, arcs, circles, polylines, splines, text, dimensions, and 3D solids — is described by group codes paired with values specifying coordinates and properties. DXF versions evolve alongside AutoCAD releases, adding support for new features with each edition. One major advantage is universal CAD compatibility — DXF is supported by virtually every CAD, CAM, and engineering application across all platforms, making it the most widely accepted exchange format for technical drawings. The ASCII variant provides another strength: drawings can be inspected, debugged, and generated programmatically using text processing tools or scripts. DXF serves as a critical bridge enabling architects, engineers, and manufacturers to share precise technical drawings regardless of which software each party uses, and remains the standard for cross-platform CAD data exchange.

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's branded implementation of the HEIF (High Efficiency Image File Format) standard that uses HEVC (H.265) as its image compression codec. Apple adopted HEIC as the default photo format on iPhones and iPads starting with iOS 11 in September 2017, replacing JPEG for newly captured images. HEIC files store photographs compressed with the intra-frame coding mode of the HEVC video codec, which applies sophisticated prediction, transform, and entropy coding techniques that achieve roughly 50% better compression than JPEG at equivalent visual quality. The ISOBMFF (ISO Base Media File Format) container supports multiple images in a single file, enabling Live Photos (a still plus a short video clip), burst sequences, depth maps from dual-camera systems, and HDR gain maps that allow compatible displays to render extended dynamic range. HEIC also stores alpha channels, auxiliary images for computational photography features (portrait mode depth data, semantic segmentation masks), and comprehensive EXIF/XMP metadata. One advantage is storage efficiency: iPhones shooting HEIC use roughly half the storage of equivalent JPEG captures with no visible quality loss, a significant benefit on devices where storage is finite and photos accumulate rapidly. The format's integration with Apple's ecosystem is another key strength — HEIC files are natively supported across macOS, iOS, iPadOS, and iCloud Photos, and automatic JPEG transcoding during file sharing ensures compatibility when sending photos to non-Apple devices. HEIC can also be opened by Windows 10/11 (with codec), GIMP, ImageMagick, and Adobe Lightroom.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why convert DXF to HEIC?

HEIC is Apple's default photo format — it delivers sharp image quality at roughly half the size of JPEG, ideal for sharing drawings on iOS and macOS.

What devices and apps open HEIC?

iPhones, iPads, and Macs open HEIC natively. On Windows 10+, install the HEIF extension from the Microsoft Store for full support.

Does the conversion preserve fine CAD detail?

HEIC uses advanced HEVC-based compression that retains sharp lines and text at high fidelity, even at reduced file sizes.

Is HEIC better than JPEG for technical drawings?

For the same visual quality, HEIC files are significantly smaller. This matters when distributing large sets of rendered CAD images.

Can I convert DXF to HEIC for free?

Free conversion is available for everyday use. Premium plans unlock higher limits and faster queue priority for bigger projects.

What happens to my uploaded drawings?

Source files are deleted right after conversion. Generated HEIC images are automatically removed from the server within 24 hours.
