The codec to encode the video track. Codec "Without reencoding" copies the video stream from the input file into output without re-encoding if possible.
Set the video quality in a VBR mode. Choose "Custom" if you need to set a fixed bitrate (CBR).
Set an output video resolution by selecting one from the predefined set of the most popular resolutions or manually entering a custom resolution.

3gp

3GP is a multimedia container format defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project as the standard media format for 3G mobile services. Based on the ISO base media file format (MPEG-4 Part 12), it was designed to reduce storage and bandwidth requirements so that mobile phones with limited capabilities could efficiently capture, store, and play video content. The format typically uses H.263 or H.264 video codecs paired with AMR-NB, AMR-WB, or AAC audio. 3GP was instrumental in bringing multimedia to mobile devices during the early smartphone era, when network speeds and device hardware imposed tight constraints on file sizes. The streamlined container strips away overhead found in full MP4 files, resulting in significantly smaller files that stream reliably over slow 3G connections. 3GP supports both GSM and UMTS network protocols and includes provisions for timed text and still images within the container. Broad adoption by major handset manufacturers ensured that practically every 3G-capable phone could handle 3GP media natively. Although modern mobile devices now favor MP4 and other advanced formats, 3GP files are still encountered in archives of older mobile recordings and in regions where bandwidth-efficient video delivery remains important.

mpeg

MPEG (MPEG-1) is a foundational video and audio compression standard published in August 1993 by the Moving Picture Experts Group as ISO/IEC 11172. It was the first international standard for lossy compression of moving pictures and associated audio, establishing principles and techniques that would influence virtually all subsequent video codecs. MPEG-1 video achieves compression through a combination of motion-compensated prediction, discrete cosine transform coding, and variable-length entropy encoding, organized around three frame types: I-frames (intra-coded), P-frames (predicted), and B-frames (bidirectionally predicted). The standard targets bit rates around 1.5 Mbps for combined audio and video, producing quality comparable to VHS tape at SIF resolution (352x240 for NTSC). This compression level was specifically chosen to match the data throughput of 1x-speed CD-ROM drives, enabling the Video CD format that brought digital video to consumers in the early 1990s. The audio component, particularly Layer III (MP3), went on to become the most influential audio format in history. The I/P/B frame structure, motion estimation approach, and block-based transform coding established the architectural template followed by every major video codec since, from MPEG-2 through H.264 and beyond. Though long surpassed in compression efficiency, MPEG-1 remains supported by virtually all media software.

How to convert 3GP to MPEG

1

Select or drag&drop 3GP video to convert it to the MPEG format from your computer, iPhone or Android. Moreover, it is possible to choose it from your Google Drive or Dropbox account.

2

Now your video is uploaded and you can start the 3GP to MPEG conversion. If it is needed, change the output format to one of the 37 video formats supported. After that, you can add more videos for batch conversion.

3

If you want, you can customize such settings as resolution, quality, aspect ratio and others by clicking the gear icon. Apply them to all the video files if necessary and click the button "Convert" to process.

4

Once your video is converted and edited, you can download it to your Mac, PC or another device. If necessary, save the file to your Dropbox or Google Drive account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why convert 3GP to MPEG?

3GP was designed for old GSM phones with tiny screens and limited processing power. MPEG works on practically every media player ever made — from classic DVD software to modern streaming devices.

What apps support MPEG playback?

Open MPEG using VLC, Windows Media Player, QuickTime, and virtually any video player on the market.

Are my videos kept private?

Uploaded 3GP files are removed immediately after conversion. Your MPEG downloads are automatically deleted from our servers within 24 hours.

How fast is the 3GP to MPEG conversion?

Our cloud servers process conversions quickly. Shorter 3GP clips finish in under a minute, while longer videos may take several minutes.

Can I convert several 3GP videos at once?

Batch conversion is supported. Upload multiple 3GP files and convert them all to MPEG in one session — each processes in parallel on our servers.

Can I convert 3GP to MPEG on mobile devices?

Absolutely. Open convertio.tools on your phone or tablet, upload the 3GP, select MPEG, and save the output — no app installation necessary.
