Universal browser support provides another key strength: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and all mobile browsers now render WebP natively, achieving the broad adoption threshold needed for practical deployment. Google's core web infrastructure (Search, YouTube thumbnails, Gmail) uses WebP extensively, and the format is supported by major CDN platforms, CMS systems, and image processing services. WebP has established itself as the primary modern alternative to JPEG and PNG for web content.
