Monochrome Slide Captures

Each PPSX slide renders as a crisp black-and-white WBMP — maximizing contrast and minimizing file size for constrained displays.

Presentation to Mobile Image

Bridge the gap between rich PPSX slide shows and compact WBMP images suited for mobile, IoT, and embedded screen applications.

Ultra-Fast Conversion

WBMP images are extremely small. The conversion from PPSX completes rapidly, even for presentations with dozens of slides.

About formats

PPSX (PowerPoint Slideshow XML) is the Open XML counterpart to the legacy PPS format, introduced by Microsoft with Office 2007. Like PPTX, a PPSX file is a ZIP archive containing XML parts that describe slides, layouts, themes, and media assets according to the Office Open XML specification. The distinguishing characteristic is behavioral: opening a PPSX file launches the presentation directly in full-screen slideshow mode, bypassing the editing environment. This makes PPSX the preferred format for distributing finalized presentations where the audience should experience the content as a seamless visual narrative without exposure to the editing interface, slide sorter, or speaker notes panel. PPSX files support every visual feature available in PPTX including transitions, animations, embedded video and audio, hyperlinks, SmartArt, charts, and custom slide timings. One advantage is streamlined delivery — a PPSX file attached to an email or shared via a link opens as a polished presentation with a single click, requiring no instruction to the recipient. The XML-based foundation provides another benefit: PPSX files are typically much smaller than equivalent PPS files due to built-in ZIP compression, and their contents can be inspected or modified programmatically using standard XML tools. The format is supported for playback in PowerPoint, LibreOffice Impress, Google Slides (after upload), and various mobile presentation apps, ensuring broad cross-platform reach for distributed slide decks.

WBMP (Wireless Bitmap) is a monochrome (1-bit, black and white) image format defined as part of the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) specification, developed by the WAP Forum (later consolidated into the Open Mobile Alliance) around 1998. The format was designed for the extremely constrained mobile devices of the late 1990s and early 2000s — phones with small monochrome screens, minimal processing power, and narrow bandwidth GSM data connections. WBMP uses the simplest possible encoding: a type identifier byte (always 0 for the only defined type), width and height encoded as multi-byte integers using a variable-length scheme, and the raw pixel data where each bit represents one pixel (0 for white, 1 for black) packed eight per byte. There is no compression, no metadata, and no color — the format is purely a minimal container for delivering small monochrome graphics to WAP-era mobile browsers. One advantage was extreme efficiency on constrained devices — WBMP images could be decoded with virtually zero CPU overhead and minimal memory, critical on early mobile hardware running at single-digit megahertz clock speeds. The tiny file sizes are another strength: a typical WBMP icon occupied just a few hundred bytes, practical for transfer over 9.6 kbps GSM data channels. While the WAP ecosystem has been entirely superseded by modern mobile web browsers capable of rendering full-color JPEG, PNG, and WebP images, WBMP files remain encountered in archived mobile content from that transitional era.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why convert PPSX to WBMP?

WBMP produces tiny monochrome images designed for mobile and embedded screens — useful when you need ultra-compact slide visuals for constrained devices.

What displays WBMP images?

WAP-enabled mobile devices, certain embedded systems, and image editors like GIMP or IrfanView can open WBMP. It was designed for early mobile web.

Will color be preserved in WBMP?

No — WBMP is strictly monochrome (black and white). Slide colors are converted to a high-contrast two-tone representation.

When would I actually need WBMP?

WBMP is relevant for legacy mobile platforms, embedded device interfaces, IoT displays, and specialized industrial applications with monochrome screens.

Are all slides converted to WBMP?

Yes — every slide in your PPSX generates a separate WBMP image, allowing you to use individual slides on target devices.

Is this service free?

Convertio provides free PPSX to WBMP conversion. Premium accounts are available for higher-volume needs.
