Multi-Frame Support

MNG bundles multiple images or animation frames in a single file. Your POT slides can be rendered as a cohesive multi-frame sequence rather than individual loose images.

Beyond GIF Limits

Unlike GIF, MNG supports full-color imagery, alpha transparency, and both lossy and lossless compression — a richer output from your POT template content.

Privacy First

Uploaded POT templates are deleted right after conversion completes. MNG output files are automatically purged from servers within 24 hours.

About formats

POT (PowerPoint Template) is the binary template format for Microsoft PowerPoint, using the same OLE2 compound document structure as PPT files. A POT file contains a complete presentation structure — slide masters, color schemes, font definitions, placeholder layouts, background designs, and default formatting — that serves as a reusable foundation for new presentations with consistent branding. When a user creates a new presentation from a POT template, PowerPoint generates a fresh untitled document pre-populated with the template's design elements while leaving the original file unmodified. The format supports all visual features available in PPT including custom slide layouts, embedded graphics, animations, transition presets, and action buttons on master slides. POT templates became central to corporate identity management in organizations that standardized their visual communications through PowerPoint, ensuring every department produced presentations with approved logos, color palettes, fonts, and layouts. One advantage is brand consistency at scale — distributing a POT file across an organization guarantees that all new presentations inherit the correct visual identity without requiring each author to manually replicate design elements. Rapid document creation is another strength: presenters start with professional layouts and focus on content rather than design, reducing preparation time. While the XML-based POTX format has replaced POT for modern workflows, the binary template format remains in use where compatibility with PowerPoint 97-2003 is required.

MNG (Multiple-image Network Graphics) is an animation and multiple-image format designed as the animated counterpart to PNG, with its specification reaching version 1.0 on January 31, 2001. Developed by Glenn Randers-Pehrson and members of the PNG development community, MNG extends PNG's capabilities with support for frame-based animation sequences, slide shows, complex sprite overlays, and JNG (JPEG Network Graphics) frames for lossy compression of photographic content within the same container. An MNG file consists of a series of chunks (following PNG's chunk-based architecture): MHDR and MEND chunks bookend the datastream, with embedded PNG or JNG images as individual frames and control chunks (DEFI, FRAM, LOOP, ENDL, TERM, BACK, BASI, CLON, PAST, DISC, SHOW) directing playback timing, looping behavior, layer compositing, and memory management. The format supports both full-frame replacement and delta (difference) updates for efficient encoding of animations with static backgrounds, as well as object-based animation where sprites are defined once and repositioned across frames. One advantage is technical sophistication: MNG provides a level of animation control that GIF and APNG cannot match — frame-accurate timing, nested loops, conditional branches, interframe compression, and mixed lossy/lossless content within a single animation. The PNG-based foundation ensures lossless quality with full alpha transparency for each frame. MNG is supported by ImageMagick, GIMP, and various media players, though browser support was limited, which led to APNG's emergence as a simpler alternative for web animation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why convert POT to MNG?

MNG supports multiple images and animations with both lossy and lossless compression. Converting POT slides to MNG can produce an animated sequence or a multi-frame image collection from your template.

How do I open MNG images?

Firefox historically supported MNG natively. Dedicated viewers like XnView, IrfanView, and GIMP can open MNG files, along with any application that supports the libmng library.

How does MNG compare to GIF?

MNG offers superior compression, full-color support, and alpha transparency — capabilities that GIF lacks. The trade-off is that MNG has less universal browser support.

Can MNG hold multiple slides as frames?

Yes — MNG is designed for multi-image storage. Multiple POT slides can be encoded as separate frames within a single MNG file.

Does this require registration?

No. Upload, convert, and download without creating an account. Free tier covers standard conversion workloads.

Is MNG still actively used?

MNG is niche today, having been largely overshadowed by APNG and WEBP for web animations. However, it remains supported by various image processing libraries and tools.
