Conceived by DTS, Inc. and first showcased theatrically alongside the 1993 film Jurassic Park, the technology delivers up to 5.1 discrete channels of surround sound at bit rates typically between 768 kbps and 1.5 Mbps. Unlike competing codecs that lean on aggressive psychoacoustic modeling, DTS allocates a higher data budget to each channel, preserving finer spatial detail and low-level dynamics.
